GAIL Gas Ltd, the city gas arm of India’s largest gas firm, GAIL (India) Ltd, made a noteworthy announcement on Sunday, revealing substantial price reductions for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and piped cooking gas, also known as Piped Natural Gas (PNG). The price adjustments come in response to a decrease in the input gas prices, and the company aims to establish a stable pricing regime for consumers while encouraging the adoption of CNG and PNG as preferred fuels.
Prices for Gail Gas
GAIL Gas Ltd has implemented a reduction of up to Rs 7 in the prices of both CNG and PNG. Specifically, the price of PNG has been cut by Rs 7 per standard cubic meter (scm) in Bengaluru and Dakshina Kannada, and by Rs 6 per scm in other cities where GAIL operates. Similarly, the CNG prices have been reduced by Rs 7 per kilogram in Karnataka and by Rs 6 in other regions.
New Prices in Bengaluru and Dakshina Kannada:
The revised prices for PNG and CNG in Bengaluru and Dakshina Kannada are now Rs 51.50 per scm and Rs 82.50 per kg, respectively. GAIL emphasizes that these adjustments are part of its commitment to aligning its pricing mechanism with the Government of India’s guidelines, ensuring that customers benefit from the new domestic gas pricing benefits.
Effective Domestic PNG Prices in Various Locations:
GAIL Gas Limited has extended the reduction in prices to various locations, including Dewas, Meerut, Sonipat, Taj Trapezium Zone, Raisen, Mirzapur, Dhanbad, Adityapur, and Rourkela. The new effective domestic PNG prices in these areas are Rs 52.50 per scm.
CNG Prices in Different Regions:
The revised CNG prices are Rs 85 per kg for Meerut and Sonipat, Rs 92 per kg for Dewas, Taj Trapezium Zone, and Dehradun, Rs 87 per kg for Mirzapur, and Rs 91 per kg for Raisen, Dhanbad, Adityapur, Puri, and Rourkela.
Government’s Role in Price Adjustments:
These changes come on the heels of the government’s revision of the formula for natural gas pricing, impacting the cost of CNG for automobiles and piped gas for household use. The government’s intervention has resulted in a significant reduction in the price of natural gas, now standing at USD 6.5 per million British thermal units, down from USD 8.57.
GAIL’s Statement on New Guidelines:
GAIL Gas Ltd released a statement emphasising that the new guidelines aim to establish a stable pricing regime for domestic gas consumers while providing protection from adverse market situations. The statement also highlights the need to offer sufficient protection to gas producers from market fluctuations and incentives to user industries and the City Gas Distribution (CGD) sector.
Environmental Impact:
In addition to stabilising prices and protecting stakeholders, GAIL anticipates that the price reductions will accelerate the expansion of CNG and PNG as preferred fuels. This, in turn, is expected to contribute significantly to reducing the carbon footprint, aligning with broader environmental goals and enhancing overall quality of life.
GAIL Gas Ltd’s proactive approach to aligning with government guidelines and passing on the benefits of reduced gas prices to consumers reflects a commitment to creating a stable and consumer-friendly pricing regime. The price reductions for PNG and CNG are poised to have positive implications for both consumers and the environment, promoting the adoption of cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
